MSc. Cecilia Fager
cecilia.fager[at]chalmers.se

Biography
Cecilia earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering in 2013 and a Master of Science in Materials Chemistry and Nanotechnology in 2015 at Chalmers University of Technology. To gain laboratory experience in combination with work experience, Cecilia has been working as a laboratory assistant at several different chemistry companies in Sweden during the summer throughout her University studies. She is now a PhD Student in the Eva Olsson group with focus on electron microscopy on soft materials.

Research Interests
Cecilia is using focused ion beam combined with scanning electron microscope (FIB/SEM) to reconstruction the microstructure in 3D of porous and poorly conductive functional materials. She is thus facing challenges such as charging and curtaining.  An example of this porous and poorly conductive soft material is coatings for controlling drug release from a pharmaceutical pellet. The porous network within the coatings plays an important role in tailoring the drug release from the pellet. Cecilia is collaborating with the Department of Mathematical Sciences at Chalmers University of Technology as well as RISE (Research Institute of Sweden) to characterise the porous network. The quantification includes for example
  • Tortuosity (path length through the network )
  • Pore size distribution
  • Mass transport simulations
